I posted new pics of Davy today. It is like I took pictures of a different child than I did last week. He is happier, more content, and so much better looking than he was one week ago today. Scroll down, compare, and see what I mean.
Thank you to everyone for your concern, and your prayers. He is doing so well now. He has been sleeping longer at night, taking better naps during the day, playing well, and no more of the continual fussing that was probably caused by all the itching that eczema causes.
For those of you who didn't know, I was taking Prozac for about 13 months, from November 2004 until January of this year. So I was taking the medication from 3 months pregnant until Davy was 7 months old. I was taking it for anxiety and depression. The side-effects on babies are unknown, but supposed to be safe. At Thanksgiving I missed a couple of doses of medicine. Davy and I got sick, and he had his first outbreak of eczema. At Christmas I missed almost a week's worth. I felt horrible, and Davy had a worse outbreak of his eczema. Then in the middle of January I ran out of Prozac and Walgreen's gave me a run around about refilling it. By the time that they finally did, I hadn't taken any Prozac in a couple of weeks and was feeling okay. I decided to see if I could stay off of it and be okay. They recommend you do this every year or so anyways. This was when Davy had his most worrisome outbreak of eczema. We are now Prozac free, and hope to stay that way. I still struggle with feeling down somedays, but have found things that help this, like playing with kids, or cleaning, or sewing, or talking on the phone with a friend. Acupressure has also helped, because now my body is working right. And of course, not being pregnant helps too! There is probably no scientific proof that would say his eczema was his body's way of cleansing itself of the Prozac, but it seems awfully suspicious that each incidence was when he had a lack of the drug. Prozac has a very long half-life, it takes a good 4-6 weeks to work into, and then out of your body. According to my calendar, that makes sense why our symptoms are now fading. (Lotion did help his skin though) Hopefully this is now over, for the time being.
This is just my theory, so take it or leave it. And don't worry, though I think highly of natural medicine and such, I do not believe in using homeopathic medicine, and I still believe in antibiotics and doctors. As in all things, we must have a balance. Thanks again. The Potters
