Right before bed last night, Gabbie and Davy were playing with Gabbie's Magic Scarf. The magic scarf is a long pink fuzzy thing that Joey calls the dead muppet. It is magic in the fact that it can be used as a scarf, but it is also hollow and can be stretched to wider than longer and then be worn as something else. Gabbie has worn it as a dress, a shirt, a hat, etc. As dress up of course, not out in public! (I am not that kind of mom!)
So last night she decided it would make a great mermaid tail. She pulled it up over her legs and let some dangle at the bottom for her fin. This was after bedtime, so I told her to go in bed. Amber helped me tuck them in, and informed me that Gabbie was planning on sleeping in her mermaid tail! Ha ha!
Fine, whatever, it is just a big knitted thing, no harm done.
Now, Gabbie falls asleep in our bed, so that her and Davy don't destroy their room every night. Then I pick her up and move her to sleep with Davy when I'm ready to go to bed. (Which is always before Joey.)
Last night I walked into our room at about ten p.m. and looked for Gabbie in the bed.
Gabbie was gone!
She had been replaced by a mermaid with a pink tail! Complete with triangular fin!
Then I looked more closely at this mermaid with the perfectly triangular fin at the bottom, and saw some wire sticking out. What was that twisty metal thing? The top of a hanger?? Ah ha! This tricky little mermaid had gotten a metal hanger and used it to make her tail nice and triangular at the bottom, a perfect mermaid tail!
I laughed hysterically, but quietly, and went to tell Joey that he had to see this. I tried to take a picture, but my camera dramatically died just when I needed it. Oh well, this is one for the memory to hold tight to for the next 80 or so years!
I gently removed the mermaid tail to find my own little sleeping beauty again, and then carried her off to her own bed. She never woke up. I don't even know if she will remember this in the morning!

I miss these babies. You've already been gone too long and you aren't coming back for more than a week!!! What's an Aunt Amber to do???
