NOT a teacher . . .

Gabbie is very interested in people who are teachers. They talk about teachers on TV, at Sunday School, MOPS and rainbows. And my two close friends in town are both teachers, one elementary and one high school. So it is no wonder that she talks about teachers a lot and has asked me if I too am a teacher. I always say, "No, I'm a mommy!" Even though, mommies are the first teachers of children, long before they get to school.

So today Gabbie woke up very late. She had a rough night. By the time she woke up, Davy and I were the only ones left at home. Everyone else had gone to work. She said she wanted them to come home, they didn't need to go to work. I told her they needed to work, etc. Gabbie then decided that she needed to go to work too. She strapped on her purse, got her car keys and told me she was going to work and that she would be home later.

I asked her what she did at work. She said she needed to go to the store. "Do you work at a store?" I asked. "Do you sell food?" "No" replied Gabbie. "Are you a teacher?" I asked again. "No, I not a teacher, I a mommy."

Then Gabbie got off the toilet where this little conversation had taken place, (with her purse still strapped on by the way!) went to flush the toilet and told her invisible child, "Come here, hold my hand!"

Not a teacher, a mommy. The best job in the world.

Yes, I am sooooo proud of my two girls who have chosen the most important jobs in the world...loving, nurturing, teaching and treasuring children. There is no higher calling than being a Mommy. Bless you.
